Check out the lights that are going up this week. Like a lot of thing around Base Camp, this is a little bit of old meets new. These lights were repurposed from the Underground and are now going to be resused in the new gathering space. Access Audio has been installing the lights along with some other audio equipment this week. They have been an incredible partner in this process and shown great Kingdom partnership in the work they are doing and the generosity they are showing our Red Door family. 

We knew the glass was coming, but I do not think we were prepared for the transformation it is making. What an incredible and refreshing change the windows are making! The atrium will be a place of light for all who enter.  

The floors are getting refinished this week. Check out the progress...

The new stage is going in and the old trusses are being restored. Progress! 

The new front entrance doors have been installed! We should be seeing all the new glass replaced soon as well. The contractors are finishing up the interior painting, building the stage, and preparing the floors for finishing. Stay tuned for more updates. 

Drywall is going up on the walls and the individual spaces within Base Camp are starting to take shape very quickly.

The electricians are on the scene and beginning to run the arteries through the walls that will supply power to the building.

This Saturday morning we will be "Kondoing" Base Camp. If you are not sure what that even means then first start here... Marie Kondo Trailer 

Ok... with that out of the way we are going to be running two groups on Saturday morning. One shift from 9am-10am and another shift from 10am-11am. The goal is to blitz Base Camp and sort into 3 piles of: Keep, Storage, and Trash. This will allow for an open space for the contractors to work in as they get back to work - woohoo! We want to "spark joy" for those who will be working inside of Base Camp.

Wanted to give everyone a brief update during this waiting season...

In one of our previous posts, and at the Door Holders meeting, we shared how a significant hold up on a set of drawings has pushed the project back by 3 months. This delay has been a source of frustration for a lot of us. However, the delay did provide one stellar opportunity. It provided us space to find more bids on some of our projects.

This space has allowed us to find some significant savings in several of our larger upcoming projects! So even in the frustration we have not sat on our hands and found some good in this delay. Keep praying for us to move forward with wisdom and hopefully we will have some fun updates with photos to share!

JANUARY 2015
Elders lay out vision for a Base Camp in our 5 year vision plan. Our Elders + Stewardship teams continue saving as much as we can to prepare for buying a space in the city.

DECEMBER 2018
Purchase the building formally known as the Underground. We never imagined being able to buy the building we rented for our first 7 years. Due to the money we saved over these early years we were able to put down a down payment and secure a loan.

JANUARY 2019
Base Camp Team formed and Jason Brown becomes the unofficial (but official) Czar of Base Camp Buildout.
Architect hired and initial building drawings created.

Drawings redesigned as Kim Martin begins her magic.

MARCH 2019
Volunteer Demo Days gets underway. The massive amount of man hours and skilled labor save us massive dinero. Special thanks to Tom Robertson for his leadership and willingness to make one more cut to bring the walls down. Another special thanks to Dave Lenon for all the technical electric work. A massive thanks to Colin Clark for all of his hard work, and a final big thanks to all those who took down that stage filled with 32,541 screws.

The general contractor - Hunn Construction - begins their work. They demo the rest of the space we could not do on our own. They frame out walls and other metal work like moving steps and removing catwalks that were pointless.

NOVEMBER 2019
Signage is removed and Exterior paint work begins. Thanks to all who submitted their favorite color in our Instagram poll. Remember your choices were: black, black, or the other black. In the end it was the one black called Urbane Bronze that won the hearts and minds of all (or something like that).

DECEMBER 2019
Sprinkler and Fire Alarm permits are submitted and installation begins.

JANUARY 2020
HVAC / Electric / Plumbing drawings are finally returned. This ends the massive delay for the next group of contractors to begin their work.

FEBRUARY 2020
HVAC / Electric / Plumbing contractors will begin their work to replace and rework all the "guts" of the building.

We will continue to post updates on the app so you can follow along with the progress. If any delays hit we will also let you know there as well.

We had the Fire and Alarm contractor out installing this past week and that work is now in place.  We are receiving all the updated bids from contractors this week. We will be making our final selections and awarding contracts so work can begin soon. We expect the work to begin picking back up in earnest in February. This will install the updated HVAC, Electric, and Plumbing.

This unfortunate delay with the technical drawings has pushed the entire schedule back. The upside is that we submitted for the drawings very early in this process hoping to have them back early. If we had waited until the "normal" time to submit for these we would have been waaaaaaayyyy behind.

We will be talking updated timeline and schedule at the Door Holder meeting this coming Sunday Evening. Prayers can continue for wisdom in selection of these contractors and for a smooth process moving forward. We cannot say enough good things about the primary construction contractors - Hunn Construction - and are excited to get them back in the building once all these technical contractors are finished.

Onward and Upward! 

The end of the year brought a big slowdown to the progress on the building. We had a massive delay with the company who were doing the technical drawings for the HVAC, plumbing, and electric work. However - good news! - they are now done.

We are now waiting for the contractors to fix adjust their cost estimates based on the technical drawings. This should bring their initial estimates down some which is a great thing. Once we approve the numbers the contractors for all the "guts" will get started. When they are done fixing all the insides we will be able to fire up the drywall team, then the flooring, then the paint crew, and then the finishings.

It's been a slow 6 weeks but we believe the next steps will begin soon.

Prayers for this coming month are...

• Contractors to begin
• Finding a better price on the front windows
• The delay from the company doing the tech drawings will not bump us outside of the contractor's open time frame. 

This week, we can say "BASE CAMP IS THE NEW BLACK".

WEEK 3 : I think you won't recognize this place...The Base Camp is changing and now we can see the structures of the kid's area!

WEEK 2 : The construction is underway! In just a few days, they already made big changes. . . 

Day 1 : Construction has begun! Over the course of the constructions process, we will continue to provide updates of the progress that's made. Stay tuned!

I am sure we will all miss it - in the same nostalgic way we miss the original TMNT movie - but this great 275 icon was removed today. Oh sewer tunnel entrance we will never forget you, but we are glad to see you go!
