The Gospel of Mark: The Son, The Lamb, The King

Introduction to Mark's Gospel

THE BIG IDEA
This week our KidLife group began our new teaching series with an introduction to Mark's Gospel. Over the coming weeks the KidLife Groups will dive into the Book of Mark and find that Mark’s Gospel focuses on what Jesus DID and what that tells us about WHO He is. He is the promised Messiah—the Rescuer! He is God’s Son, He is the Lamb of God, and He is the King of Kings!
SERIES MEMORY VERSE(S)
Mark 1:1-3 // The beginning of the good news about Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God, as it is written in Isaiah the prophet: "I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way"—"A voice of one calling in the wilderness 'Prepare the way for the Lord; make straight paths for him.'"
TALK ABOUT IT
  • Read and review the Series Memory Verse, Mark 1:1-3, together.
    • Our memory verse for the beginning of this series quotes a portion of the Isaiah memory verse our kids were learning during our Lent series.
  • Watch the Gospel of Mark Summary video by BibleProject together.
    • Each kid was given a poster with the BibleProject's entire summary of the Gospel of Mark that they can refer to as they watch the video and through the coming weeks of our Mark teaching series.
    • Hang the poster somewhere in your home where your kid will see it each day. Use the poster to ask questions of your kid and start conversations about how we can know WHO Jesus is by what we see him doing in the Gospel of Mark.
  • What does it mean that Jesus is God's Son?
    • He is God, God the Son, a part of the Holy Trinity. He is revealed to us as God's Son who was sent to Rescue us and bring us back to The Father.
  • What does it mean that Jesus is the Lamb of God? Why would he be called a lamb?
    • He was sent by God to be the sacrifice for Sin. He was crucified on the cross, dying in our place and rescuing us and the whole world.
  • What does it mean that Jesus is the King of Kings? Who and what is he king over?
    • He is God. He is King over everything and everyone! He has power to do whatever the Father's will is for His children and His creation.
  • What was something interesting you learned during KidLife group?
    • Answers vary.
PRAY TOGETHER
Spend some time in prayer with your kid thanking God for revealing WHO Jesus is to us through His Word and through the Gospel of Mark. Ask God to help you and your kid to know Jesus more as you spend time in His Word and that you would be changed and become more like Jesus as you know Him better and choose to follow Him.
